Layar has announced their new Layar Vision, which allows mobile devices to see virtual interactive information overlaid on IRL objects. Watch the video to see what that means. Among other things, it essentially jumps past the convention of scanning codes (Bar and QR for instance) and allows devices to scan objects to access associated virtual information.
There is little I like more than thinking of cool new stuff to create with new tools, and the applications for Layar vision could be everywhere (quite literally). The nerd in me is jumping up and down and clapping her hands. To sweeten the pot, Layar is holding a $55,000 Creation Challenge to encourage development on this platform.
